I grew up in the Dutch countryside where we lived in the middle of the woods. I spent my childhood gallivanting through meadows, oak forests and corn fields. We had a big brass bell next to our front door which helped my mom enforce her number one rule: ”you may play in the woods, but only if you make sure you can always hear the bell whenever I ring it. When it rings, return home immediately.” With those words, my mother created a lifelong obsession in discovering how far I could go..
As I grew older, I developed a love for history and literature. I wanted to become a scholar and I envisioned myself turning into a modern day Indiana Jones.. In my mind’s eye, the adult me would be teaching, researching, and adventuring all over the globe. I graduated with a degree in History from the University of Amsterdam, but fate decided I would become an entrepreneur instead.
A journey through multiple successful and unsuccessful companies led me to discover real estate as a financial driver to allow me to expand professionally while living my best possible life. Over the years, I’ve fought in a Thai boxing ring, I’ve trekked through mesmerizing mountain ranges, I’ve snowboarded in the backcountry of rural Japan, I’ve drank Ayahuasca in the middle of the Amazon jungle and I’ve kitesurfed alongside giant whales off the Northwest coast of Peru.
Expedition Everywhere is my latest brainchild: a low-key experiment in creating and sharing awesome adventures with like-minded individuals.
So, where shall we go next?
